Can a Japanese person teach a Black person about dance and Hip-Hop? (日本語以下) The newly branded ABCD Anthropod challenges assumptions about cultural ownership and creativity. Hosted by Isom Winton, a Black American expat and anthropologist living in Japan, this series takes an ethnographic approach to documenting global dance culture. Since 2007, Isom has immersed himself in the Tokyo street dance scene, learning not just about Hip-Hop but also gaining a deeper understanding of Black culture through the lens of movement and community. The All ”Black People” Can’t Dance (ABCD) host, Isom, is a “Black” American expat, currently living in Japan. In 2007, he came across the Tokyo Street Dance scene and was so inspired by his experiences, he dove into Hip Hop culture and, ultimately, learned more about “Black Culture”.
